In this powerful entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves…
My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.
And a coyote shapeshifter.
And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.
Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.
The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.
But we are pack, and we have given our word.
We will die to keep it.
Summary from Goodreads
I was so excited to dive back into the world of the Mercy Thompson series, and Patricia Briggs did not let me down.
Briggs has this amazing quality as a writer to bring characters through a series, allowing the readers to see a change, to watch relationships grow, and when something unexpected occurs, not only do the readers accept this in the larger story milieu, it’s believable.
If I say anything more, I’d be writing spoilers, but let me just say that even though this installment in the Mercy Thompson series sets the stage for a new era in the Mercy universe, Briggs has me going along right with her.
Another exciting thing about this book: it’s obvious this isn’t the last. There’s no way Briggs would end the series like this, especially not with several loose strings and the introduction of mysteries that have yet to be solved.
I am also interested to see how this installment will effect the paraell series, Alpha and Omega, as the villains in this piece were, in a way, introduced in Bright Burn, the latest installment of that series.
And! There’s a title for the next Mercy Thompson book! Smoke Bitten, slated to come out in 2020!
I am so excited!
